Completed in 2007
The Hutt Whale Beach Sydney was a collaboration between (idc]design and APA Architects
This was (idc]designs’ fourth commission for this client
Set right on the beach front the clients brief was to design a house that was at one with its surroundings / the bush / the sea A house that is sculptural / natural / warm and most of all relaxing
From its conception the architecture and the interiors where to be one
A seamless transition between the inside and out totally blurring the lines The palette is natural / strong / textural off form concrete feature walls and living area ceilings softened by the stained recycled timber cladding externally and internally and American Rock Maple strip flooring and sculptural stair treads
The lighting is fully recessed into the concrete ceilings and floors thus creating very dramatic highlight effects
