The Coolum Beach house was a collaboration between (idc]design and Gabriel Poole Architects on the Sunshine Coast
The Hong Kong based client has business interests in Australia and has formed a bond with the Sunshine Coast and the Hyatt golf course
The brief was for a simple house that was a fusion of eastern and western elements
The house has a strong sculptural form and maximizes natural daylight in turn at night the internal light illuminates the structure like a lantern
Sliding timber / rice paper screens separate the study from the living area
Large oriental rugs have been positioned over the beech flooring within the living and study areas An external reflective pond has been designed to flow into the house and separates the living and dining areas
Artwork has been commissioned for the house including the suspended natural grass / twig and paper sculpture which hangs over the internal pond
